The issue is that bots are hard to detect because they mimic human behavior. They can be programmed to make requests at random intervals or in bursts, which makes it difficult for traditional security tools like firewalls and IPS/IDS systems. In addition, botnets can easily scale up their attack volume by adding more machines into its network — all without any additional effort from the attacker’s end. This means that as an API gateway operator or developer you need a new set of tools and techniques to detect these attacks before they cause damage.
