This is my story of how we built our first Android app from scratch, using Java and Kotlin.

The idea to build an Android app came up in early 2013 when Vic Gundotra announced that he was going to step down as Senior Vice President of Social at Google. The news came out of nowhere; it seemed like Vic would be with us forever! He had led the company through its most successful period ever, growing Google+ from zero users into hundreds of millions worldwide. We were all sad to see him go but excited about what was next for Google+
