What does this mean for API Security Vendors?
This is a big deal, and not just because its Gartner saying so. The report is an industry-wide acknowledgement that organizations need to protect their APIs with dedicated tools which means they will be spending money on these products. This also means that vendors can now market themselves as API security providers instead of having to explain why they are different from WAF/gateway vendors (which was always a hard sell). It also gives them more credibility in selling up the stack into CDNs, CSPM, etc
