The first time I heard about the concept of “microservices” was in 2014, when I started working at a company called Red Hat.

The term was used to describe how we should structure our codebase. We were building an API that would be consumed by other applications and services within our organization, so it made sense for us to split up the application into smaller pieces (the microservices) that could be independently deployed and scaled.

This approach worked well for us because each service had its own database instance, which meant we could scale each service individually based on demand
