It’s an easy way to summarize something that is long and complicated, but still retain most of its meaning. I’ve found it especially useful in my work as a software engineer because many times I have to read through some code or documentation that is very dense with information. The tl;dr allows me to quickly get the gist of what I need without having to wade through all the details (which can be important later on).
