I think the best way to get a sense of what’s going on in this book is to read it with your eyes closed.

The story begins, as these things do, with an introduction to our hero: Alex Verus. He lives in London and he’s a mage who deals in magic that involves divination (basically fortune telling). His particular specialty is seeing into the future, but his abilities are limited by his own free will. If he chooses not to see something or someone then they remain hidden from him until he decides otherwise. This makes for some interesting twists later on when we learn more about how Alex sees the world around him
