The main difference between the two is that you can’t use a custom domain with free hosting.

You have to stick with your blogger.com URL, or if you are using WordPress, your wordpress.com URL.

With paid hosting, you get a custom domain name (like myblogname.com) and full control over it – meaning no one else has access to change anything on your website without your permission (unless they hack into it). With free hosting, everything is handled through Blogger/WordPress and their servers – so there isn’t much customization available for free bloggers because of this reason alone
