I grew up in the suburbs of New York City, but moved to California for college. My first computer was an Apple IIe that my parents bought me when I was about 7 years old. It had no hard drive; you loaded programs from cassette tapes! The first program I wrote was a simple drawing program with colored lines that would follow your mouse around the screen (see picture). When we got our first PC running Windows 3.1, it came bundled with Microsoft Paint, which is still my favorite image editor today
