The first thing you should do when learning a new language is to try and build something in it. It doesn’t matter what, but it’s important that you actually build something real with the language rather than just read about how cool it is or look at some code samples on Stack Overflow. You need to get your hands dirty so that you can start thinking like a programmer who uses this particular programming language; only then will its idiosyncrasies become second nature and allow you to write idiomatic code without having to think too much about them.
