The GitHub-is-evil trope has been around for years, but it seems to have become more prevalent in recent months. I think this is because many people are coming to realize that they dont really need GitHub as much as they thought they did. And when you stop needing something, it becomes easier to criticize it and find fault with its shortcomings.
I never liked the idea of using a proprietary service like GitHub anyway, so I was already on board with moving away from them before all these articles started popping up about how terrible their software development practices were (and still are)
