I’ve tried both with and without the manifest file (as per this thread: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/Y4Cx9LQZDzg), and neither seems to work for me.

If I add an icon manually, it works fine; however, when trying either of these methods nothing happens at all – no icon appears on my home screen and there is no option under Settings > Apps > Advanced that allows me to choose a default app for opening
