The result was that companies ended up with a patchwork quilt of solutions in place, which is never ideal. The problem is that each one has its own unique way of doing things (and often uses different terminology), so its hard to get them all on the same page or even talk about them in the same language. And if you have multiple acquisitions over time, you end up with an unwieldy mess as well as gaps where there are no controls at all
